The new exhibition at the Museum Jüdischer Betsaal (Jewish Prayer Room Museum) in Horb is dedicated to a largely unknown aspect of local and regional history during the Nazi era. How did Jewish families deal with the fact that their children were gradually denied access to public schools in the 1930s or that they had to leave them? What considerations guided them, what alternatives did they find, and what opportunities did Jewish institutions in Germany and Europe create to offer young people a safe place for education?

The first part of the exhibition deals with the initial situation: the exclusion of children from public schools, the situation of Jewish schools, prominent teachers, and educational institutions that prepared students for agricultural or domestic work in exile.

The second part of the exhibition presents the biographies of Jewish youths from Rexingen, Horb, and Hechingen who left their families and hometowns temporarily and ultimately forever. They had to learn professions that most of them had never dreamed of, but which offered them a chance to survive during their planned emigration.

The exhibition, with its many photos and original quotations, tells of the courage and strength of parents and their children in defying adversity and finding ways and means to prepare themselves for an uncertain future.
